How to choose Fiber & Structured Cabling
Cat6 is the sensible default for offices, homes and CCTV; Cat6A suits backbones, servers and high-speed Wi-Fi. For PoE devices always choose pure copper cable rather than copper-clad aluminium (CCA).
Fiber carries data far beyond 100 metres and between buildings without electrical interference. Match single-mode or multimode cable with the right patch cords and SFP modules.
Common questions
Cat6 or Cat6A?
Cat6 for most offices and CCTV; Cat6A for 10 Gbps links, servers and backbone runs up to 100 metres.
Why pure copper cable?
Pure copper carries power and data reliably over distance; CCA cable can cause PoE cameras to reboot or fail on long runs.
Single-mode or multimode fiber?
Single-mode for long runs and between buildings; multimode for shorter runs inside one building. Modules and cords must match the fiber type.
